Are Court Records Public in Grant County?

The Grant County District Court keeps records of criminal proceedings, not arrest records. Arrest records and inmate information are maintained by separate law enforcement agencies. Grant County Family Court Records
Family law cases in Grant County—including divorces, child custody and support proceedings, domestic violence matters, and adoptions—are heard exclusively by the 6th Judicial District Court. The District Court has exclusive jurisdiction over domestic relations, mental health, and related matters, making the District Court Clerk the primary records custodian for all family-related court filings in the county.

Child Custody, Support, and Domestic Violence Matters
Child custody, child support, and domestic violence protective order cases are all filed in the 6th Judicial District Court, and the District Court Clerk maintains those records. Birth and Death Records
Vital records relevant to family proceedings—such as birth certificates needed for custody filings and death certificates needed for estate matters—are maintained by the New Mexico Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics rather than the courts. Grant County Probate Court Records
The Grant County Probate Court, located within the Grant County Administration Building, handles informal probate proceedings—the process by which a deceased person's estate is formally transferred to heirs or beneficiaries. Probate jurisdiction in New Mexico is county-specific: the Probate Court can act when the decedent lived in Grant County at the time of death, or when the decedent resided outside New Mexico but held property in the county.
What the Probate Court Handles
The Grant County Probate Court has authority over:
- Admitting original wills to informal probate (testate estates)
