New Mexico Court Records
The New Mexico Courts website provides an overview of New Mexico's court records and explains how to access them. New Mexico's justice system is tiered, comprising trial courts and appellate courts. Trial courts include the District Court, which has general jurisdiction, and specialized courts such as the Magistrate, Bernalillo County Metropolitan, Municipal, and Probate Courts. These specialized courts have limited jurisdiction and handle lower-level civil and criminal matters.
The appellate system includes the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court. The Court of Appeals reviews cases from the District Courts. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is the highest authority and oversees all lower courts.
Pursuant to the Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA), court records are generally open to the public; however, access may be restricted by court rules and orders. While the information on this website may provide guidance on accessing records, it does not constitute official records and should not be interpreted as legal advice.
